Workshops

I conduct workshops on using digital storytimes and information literacy and technology programming; my recent workshops were conducted for the North Suburban Library System, National-Louis University, and the Illinois School Library Media Association’s annual conference.

The Digital Storytimes Workshop introduces a new type of group storytime — a digital storytime — which can be used effectively in both libraries and schools.  Beginning with an overview of the research on using technology with children, and continuing with specific examples of how using digitized books during storytimes can enhance story understanding, I introduce this new storytime tool and give a comprehensive description of how to set up the technical elements of a digital storytime.  Additional focus is on the literacy benefits of using digital storytimes in a group setting, and how to effectively utilize a database of digitized books like the International Children’s Digital Library in designing programs and curriculum for children.

This program will be beneficial for teachers and librarians who work with preschoolers, school-age children, middle school students, high school students in early childhood learning programs, and special needs children.
